Jamis William Stanton

Jamis grew up in Canmore, Alberta; a small active community nestled in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Canmore offers world renown skiing and rock climbing and Jamis was raised on the activities that the valley has to offer.

Art classes at Canmore Collegiate High School sparked a passion, but Jamis recognized a structured academic environment to limit creativity. Time after school was often spent painting, drawing and wood carving; away from a curriculum and judgemental eyes.

Jamis continued painting through post-secondary at the University of Calgary. As a Geology major he became particularly inspired by the microscopic optical properties of minerals; influencing paintings to become increasingly abstract.

As a source of income while completing his BSc in Geology, Jamis began a plumbing apprenticeship. The trade introduced Jamis to copper work; soldering/brazing copper pipe for domestic potable water systems. He fell in love with the metal and it’s oxidation properties. Copper soon became the medium of choice for his works of art.

Today Jamis works as an Exploration Geologist/Geophysical Operator, with focus on gold/copper deposits. He captivates an audience with unique pieces of copper-work breathing inspiration from his travel and remote work as a Geologist.
